Cordless Blinds-- What They Are and How They Work
What are Cordless Blinds?
You may have noticed in our blog about child-safety when it comes to window treatments that we were talking a lot about cordless blinds. You may be wondering-- what even are cordless blinds? Are there different options? What are the additional benefits of them and why should I make the switch?
You may also be wondering… don’t blinds need cords to function? That’s a GREAT question! Sure, blinds are strung on cords, but you don’t need cords to tilt them or even raise them up. Window covering producers have come up with various ways to improve cordless function. Cordless blinds and shades promote child safety and make your life a heck of a lot easier- so stay with us here.
How Do Cordless Blinds Work?
This can be a tricky question to answer -- as varying types of blinds and shades all have their own way of functioning without cords. When it comes down to it, though, the principal is all the same: they don’t use a cord to lift or tilt direction.
For certain window treatments, all it takes is you lifting up the bottom rail with your hand to the height you want and a plastic lip in the middle of the bottom rail helps hold it securely in place. And boom, done. That’s it!
Some shades operate with a pulley and have a lock button on the bottom. When you press and hold down this button, the tension around the strings is released, allowing you to simply push the blinds to the desired position. Once you let go of the button, the string secures again, locking them in place.
Some cordless shades pull down like a projector screen. You just pull the fabric towards you and downward, and the spring within the shade will allow you to roll the shade to the height you would like.
Some cordless shades are motorized and you can control the movement with the press of a button—boom done. Easy as it gets!
So Why Make the Switch?
Well, as we said before, one of the main reasons to eliminate cords when it comes to window treatments is to promote child and pet safety.
They are easy to operate and make large window treatments in businesses and offices a breeze to control. They also tend to look more sleak and clean, as there are no cords hanging down.
In the end, there are a variety of reasons to switch to cordless blinds and a variety of options when it comes to the product choices.
